Lufthansa has consolidated its position as Slovenia’s busiest airline, handling 106,874 passengers on its flights to Ljubljana in the first three quarters of the year.
The German AUA parent company holds a 14.3 percent market share at Ljubljana Airport, ahead of second-place Turkish Airlines with a passenger share of 11.7 percent. Together with Swiss and Brussels Airlines, the Lufthansa Group has played a leading role in the Slovenian aviation sector since the insolvency of Adria Airways in 2019. However, the number of passengers on flights to Germany is still significantly lower than in the same period three years ago, as reported by the online portal Ex-Yu-Aviation. At that time, Adria was the only airline and quickly transported 214,000 passengers, almost twice as many as Lufthansa. The first quarter of this year was still severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
