On Thursday evening, a passenger’s power bank caught fire on board Ural Airlines flight U6167 on the way to the runway. He is said to have thrown the burning object on the ground in panic. The cabin is said to have quickly filled with smoke, necessitating an immediate evacuation.
The crew decided to stop the Airbus A321 with the registration RA73842 immediately and initiated the evacuation via the evacuation slides. The travelers were then taken to the terminal and were able to start their journey to Kaliningrad on a replacement aircraft. However, the passengers had to wait around seven hours to be made available.
Ural Airlines did not provide details on how many people were actually on board U6167. The machine has 220 seats in an all economy layout and is about 16 years old. This Airbus A321ceo has been in service for the Russian carrier since May 2016. The medium-haul jet previously flew for Avianca El Salvador.
