Nuremberg Airport in Bavaria has donated three decommissioned buses from the apron fleet for the Ukraine. The vehicles will be handed over to the “Bamberg:UA” association founded by Ukrainian students. This was founded in 2014 shortly after the annexation of Crimea.
Bamberg: UA is now networked nationwide and operates two warehouses for collecting aid supplies. Since the beginning of the war in February 2022, the association alone has collected over 1.5 million euros in donations and used it to buy emergency medical supplies for Ukraine. Another focus is on vehicles: in 2022, 25 ambulances and eleven buses for evacuation from the front areas were procured.
The buses donated by the airport subsidiary AirPart GmbH are also to be used for this purpose. The Rotary Clubs of Herzogenaurach and Weiden Max Reger are responsible for the logistics and costs for the transfer to the Ukraine. Three apron buses that the airport has decommissioned are now going to the Ukraine via the association and are intended to support the civilian population there in evacuating from the front areas.
